Everything you need to know about gearmotors and their components

Los gearmotors are indispensable systems to properly and effectively move most motor machines. Given their importance in regulating the speed of the mechanism, it is essential that we know well what they consist of, what are the elements that form them and their main types.

What are gearmotors

Gearmotors are mechanisms that regulate the speed of electric motors, making them work at a certain pace. They are formed by a series of gears that make up the kinematic chain, which are the ones that work on the rotating parts.

Its main objective is to help you go from a high initial speed to a lower one, without the mechanism suffering. In addition to this adjustment, a motor reducer is the system responsible for adjusting the mechanical power of a system.

Types of gearboxes and gearmotors

If we look at their internal layout, we can establish the following classification of reducers for motors:

Planetary reducers

Planetary gearmotors are organized in stages, and each one has the following structure:

  • sunshine, which is the central gear. It rotates on the central axis of the system
  • Planet carrier The carrier, who Hold up to 3 gearsYes, who meshes with the Sun
  • Krone or outer ring, which is It fits with the satellites

The central axis can also be used as the center of rotation, to help change direction without problems.

This type of gearmotor It's very reliable. For this reason, it is used by many automatic transmissions. In addition, it is very versatile, so it fits into many sectors, from industrial automation to robotics.

Between the advantages of planetary gearmotors, we can highlight:

  • Su great rotational angular stability and, therefore, its very high level of precision.
  • Sus few vibrations at different loads
  • Su uniform transmission capacity provide greater repeatability

It should also be noted that these reducers for motors have a larger contact surface. Therefore, its ride is smoother and generates a low noise level.

This better rolling and good torsional stiffness make these types of reducers more durable.

Among the types of reducers and gearmotors, planetary gearboxes have greater durability

Corona-worm

This type of industrial gearmotor is the simplest, since transmits motion to a crown using a threaded auger placed on its axis.

The speed reduction it causes is calculated based on the number of teeth in the crown and the screw inputs.

One of its great advantages is that it has a high reduction rate with few positions/stages, something for which multiple reductions should be used in conventional gears.

Of parallel axes

Parallel shaft gearmotors are composed of pairs of these types of gears:

  • Cylindric with straight teeth, which are the most common
  • Cylindrical teeth helical, which have greater power and speed, but are quieter
  • Double helical, which aim to eliminate axial thrust

This type of reducer for electric motor is compact design, and has a great capacity to withstand a high torque and forces radials.

In addition, it can reach a power range up to 200 kW, with low vibration and sound level.

Mechanical components complementary to a gearmotor

Gearmotors are composed of an electric motor and gears that form the kinematic chain, the fundamental element of the reduction ratio.

Kinematic chain

A motor reducer is composed of a reducer box and its gears.

This reducer is essentially a Variable speed drive which allows it to be lowered and increased in the output shaft.

Gears

The gears are metal or plastic sprockets (and increasingly new materials) that, through contact with each other, are used to transmit motion.

They are defined by the number of teeth they have and by their size. In addition, they can be straight or helical.

Motors

The five types of motors most commonly used in gearmotors are:

  • With brushes, usually made of coal. Son bidirectional and can be used in DC or AC. In addition, they last about 3000 hours.
  • Asynchronous, which are engines brushless and unidirectional. They are very limited
  • Synchronous, brushless and can be unidirectional or bidirectional. They have a constant speed if the frequency of the electrical grid is stable.
  • brushless, engines DC that work with control electronics or driver, and they can reach high speeds.
  • Stepper motors, DC and brushless. They can be positioned with an average accuracy of 7.5º.

CLR reducers: what are their characteristics

Have you ever wondered where to buy a gearmotor? Then you should know that at CLR we have more than 20 years of history in the design and manufacture of gearmotors.

This experience allows us to offer the best drive solutions to each company. Our product catalog includes the most common models of electric motor reducers on the market, which also have specific characteristics defined by the use to be given to them.

Thus, we have watertight reducers, that are sealed to prevent particles from entering.

Another feature of CLR gearmotors is that their motors are equipped with different systems to minimize the production of sparks in the collector and, therefore, the possibility of creating interference with other devices. These systems are different in relation to the level of EMI interference that the customer desires/needs in their application.

Count on gearmotors of the highest quality and with the most innovative elements to increase their effectiveness, such as those of CLR, it is the most effective option to ensure the proper functioning of a motor system.
